Who it's for? Rope rescue professionals and technical teams in rescue, fire service, police/tactical, industrial, and caving applications who need a durable descent control device.
What it does? Acts as a figure-8 descent control device used for controlled rappelling, belaying, and lowering operations.
How it does it? Uses a solid, heat-treated aluminum figure-8 shape with “ears” that help prevent rope slippage and make tying off easier during rappel or descent operations.
The SMC Figure 8 with Ears is a full-sized descent control device machined from ½″ thick, heat-treated solid aluminum with a hard-anodized finish. The design features shaped “ears” that help prevent the rope from slipping into a girth hitch and allow easy tie-off when rappelling. The oval attachment hole also doubles as a belay plate for use with single or double wraps of rope up to ½″ (12.5 mm) in diameter and is certified to NFPA 1983 Technical (“T”) and General (“G”) Use standards for specified rope diameters.
